Coming Up:
Observer Corps Kick-Off
We are kicking up our League's Observer Corps in September, encouraging League members to sign up to regularly attend meetings of an elected body in their community - such as county commission, city council, school board, water district board or hospital board. We believe our Observer Corps will be an important way for our League to strengthen the culture of cvic participation in our community and spot opportunities for the League to play a positive role in addressing issues that impact the quality of life for our friends and neighbors.

Getting to Know Our League's Website
Join us for a guided tour of our LWV South Central TX website! Learn how to join or renew your membership, contact other members, keep up with League activities, find volunteer opportunities, and see what's available in our Voter Toolbox. This will be especially helpful for new members, but all are welcome!
This event will repeat from time to time so we can help you get to know our website with small chunks of information that will be easy to try out and remember. Check in from time to time to see what more you can learn!

League Book Group
Our League's Book Group meets every other month via Zoom to discuss a book. This month we're discussing Sue Monk Kidd's The Dance of the Dissident Daughter. The Book Group and Book Group Socials that take place in the months we are not meeting to discuss a book, are welcome to everyone - avid readers, casual readers and wish-to-be readers!

Adopt-a-Highway Clean-Up
On next regular clean-up day on the two-mile stretch of Highway 90 just west of Schulenburg that our League has adopted is coming up in October. Here's what to do if you want to volunteer to help:
- Meet in the parking lot of the Fayette County Precinct 4 Road and Bridge facility at 1801 W Hwy 90 near the Schulenburg city limits.
- Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. We will provide instructions, bags, reflective vests, sunscreen, bugspray, and water.
- Plan on staying for a fun post-clean-up debrief at Tillie's Coffee Shop in Schulenburg.

Voters Guides Processing Day
Our League is gearing up to distribute 2500 Voters Guides throughout our South Central Texas community before early voting starts for the November 3 Constitutional Amendment election. Voters tell us that this Voters Guide is especially appreciated, since the wording that appears on the ballot for proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution is often so challenging. And, this year Texas voters will have the opportunity to vote on 14 proposed amendments - impacting everything from broadband to teacher pension pay to water.
Before we distribute Voters Guides, we must label them, sort them into piles and tie the bundles of Guides we create with string. There's nothing hard about this, and work goes quickly (and more happily!) with a small group of volunteers. If you would like to volunteer to help with the processing at Janis Richardson's home in Hallettsville, please contact her (email, text or phone @ 361-772-3228) and she will be in touch with a specific time.
We plan to have Voters Guides out to volunteers to distribute throughout the community by October 16; the first day of Early Voting is October 23.
Check out the proposed amendments that will be on our ballot (and covered in this Voters Guide) here.
